Dragon Ball Super Episode 87 - Watch Dragon Ball Super E87 Online

This week, Goku continues his attempt to recruit Android 17 into the Tournament of Power as he tags along 17's journey into space to deal with extraterrestrial animal poachers. This recruitment mini-arc before the Tournament of Power is asking a lot of its audience. Last week I didn't mind because the episode itself was good, and my expectations for seeing the recruitment arc end anytime soon have lowered in general, but it's still weird to me that the show is doing this at all. If last week's episode ended with 17 saying "Sure, I'll join your team, " it would have made just as much sense as dragging it out further as they do here. The Super anime is already ahead of the manga in terms of story, so it's not like we're waiting for more material to adapt. For the most part this episode is fine. It's cool to see Goku and 17 teaming up, and there's a stupefyingly hilarious moment where the big bad boss alien is threating to blow himself up to kill of 17's animals and Goku's immediate response is to teleport him to King Kai's planet like he did with Cell.

Soon enough, he defeats the leader with ease as well. He tries to pay them off with a large sum of money, but 17 doesn't listen in the slightest and kicks him. He doesn't care about ideas like virtue, he just hates things that personally bother him. The boss then threatens to blow up the ship. The scene cuts to a dream Beerus was having where the leader successfully blows up the ship along with Goku. The boss says he'll blow up the ship unless 17 and Goku leave, but 17 doesn't pay him any mind. 17 says Goku should take care of the animals, and give his regards to 18 and his family as he pushes the boss out of the ship's window. The both of them fly into space and nearly die, but Goku quickly transmissions them to King Kai's planet. King Kai hates that Goku brought another self-destructing villain (as Goku says that's what he did with Cell), and Goku decides to leave the villain there as he won't be able to move with the gravity anyway. Turns out, the villain was lying to begin with. The switch did not blow up a bomb, but instead was rigged to fire off confetti for a party they had planned later.

There's some rather convenient plotting that crops up once the gang touches on King Kai's base. They basically pull a "Dende ex Machina" where the Namekian God reveals to Goku that the bomb is a dud and that the poacher is lying. Jaco soon swoops in to apprehend the guy and the galactic patrolman is straight up salty this week and it's glorious. When all of the fighting is said and done, Goku and 17 get another opportunity to just connect as people. In a rather touching moment, 17 admits how unusual it feels to be fighting alongside someone that he was programed to kill, but Goku deflects that Tien, Piccolo, and Vegeta all started as enemies and now they're trusted allies. 17 also further humanizes himself when he tells Goku that his wish from the Super Dragon Balls will be a 5 billion dollar luxury cruiser so he and his family can travel the world. They're a collection of sweet moments in an episode that's all about sacrifice and defending what can't defend itself.
